Google is rolling out ID verification for businesses wanting to use their ads platform.
This is to increase transparency for all their users. While we can’t predict exactly when they’ll ask specific advertisers to become verified, we know that websites will require properly working cookie mechanisms and comprehensive privacy policies if they want to promote their business on Google.
Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to your users based on their visit to your sites and/or other sites on the Internet.
Users may opt-out of personalised advertising by visiting Ads Settings.
Notify your site visitors of the third-party vendors and ad networks serving ads on your site.
Provide links to the appropriate vendor and ad network websites.
If you’re unsure of how to set up your cookie management properly, it’seeze Web Design Ashford can help you. Contact us to find out more about our web design services and how we can help your business.
What Do Advertisers Need To Do To Become Verified For Google Ads?
Google will contact advertisers when they require it. It’s important to note that there is a time limit once the request to verify has been made. Advertisers must complete verification within 30 days. After this, if verification isn’t completed, adverts will be paused, and you will be unable to run any ads until you have become verified.
How Do I Complete Google Ad Verification?
Your Google ad account holder will receive an email requesting you verify your account. The email will contain a link to a form which will ask:
Legal business name
Countries in which you operate
Legal business address and a proof of address (e.g. a utility bill)
Your organisation’s registration number and documentation
Government-issued photo ID (such as a passport or driving licence) of the account holder. This is usually the person named on the payment profile.
Why Do I Need Google ID Verification to Run Ads?
Google has said that they’re rolling out ID verification in order to protect their users and give them better transparency. They also state that it will help users make more informed decisions and limit illegitimate advertisers. Users will also be able to see why they are seeing a particular advert, something we’ve already seen for some time on other platforms such as Facebook.
Do I Need To Do Anything Else?
You may also be asked to verify your business operations along with supporting documentation. If required, you will be asked for details such as your business model, business registration information, services you offer, business practices and relationships with brands, products or third parties you advertise. Again, you will have 30 days to complete this.
